Hawai‘i HIE to Act as Hub for Quality Data Exchange Between HMSA and Providers

The Hawai`i Health Information Exchange (Hawai`i HIE) will now serve as the vehicle for exchanging patient data between HMSA and providers participating in the health plan’s quality initiatives, including patient-centered medical home (PCMH) programs, pay-for-quality programs, and hospital value-driven health care programs.

HMSA membership data and laboratory data from Clinical Labs of Hawaii and Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc. can now be transmitted through Hawai`i HIE. Having laboratory data populate Applied Research Works’ Cozeva pay-for-quality dashboard is saving providers and their staff hours of manual data entry, helping to ensure the accuracy of the data, and facilitating faster receipt of HMSA incentive payments.

In August, Hawai‘i HIE and HMSA, the state’s largest health insurance provider, took a giant step toward enhancing the quality of care for more than 700,000 HMSA members by entering into a data-sharing agreement, allowing HMSA to utilize the technology infrastructure being developed by Hawai‘i HIE to securely transfer patient lab test results to its network of health care providers.
