The Hawai`i Health Information Exchange (Hawai`i HIE)
The Hawai‘i HIE is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization established in 2006 to enhance care coordination, to improve the health outcomes of Hawai‘i’s patients and reduce the cost of care for both patients and healthcare providers.
To support these goals, in September 2009, Hawai‘i HIE was designated by the state to develop a seamless, effective, and secure statewide health information exchange that ultimately links to the nationwide health information network.
The mission of Hawai‘i HIE is to positively transform health care in the State of Hawai‘i through the efficient exchange of critical health care information between appropriate parties, including consumers and providers, with total confidence in the security of the systems and in the validity of the information. Hawai‘i HIE facilitates the exchange of health information that enables a higher standard of quality health care statewide.
Our Vision Statement
Hawai‘i’s official Health Information Exchange is changing the way healthcare is delivered in our state. As a leading force for positive change, we are enhancing the health and well being of Hawai‘i’s people. We envision a Hawai‘i in which all residents, regardless of where they may receive their care, can obtain quality, care that is based on their own up-to-date health records.
We are committed to enhancing the health and quality of life of Hawai‘i residents and reducing the cost of health care by using state-of-the-art technological tools to seamlessly coordinate care received from different physicians or other healthcare providers.
Our goal is to serve as a vital link that brings together diverse health information systems so that physicians and other healthcare providers statewide can have efficient access to patient health information to make sound, informed clinical decisions in the best interests of patients.
The success of our program is dependent upon the participation of healthcare organizations and healthcare professionals. However, the cooperation and support of Hawai‘i residents is one of the most critical components to successfully creating this expanding network of health information.
