The Hawai‛i Pacific Regional Extension Center (HPREC) program offers a combination of national insight and local expertise on the impact of EHRs in medical practices. Our program was developed in order to provide physicians with key insights on electronic health records (EHRs) and scalable implementation solutions, whether you are already using an EHR system or not.

The HPREC offers a unique collection of resources you can’t find anywhere else, such as …

• Coordination with the Hawai‛i Immunization Registry
• Support in participating in the state health information exchange
• Privacy and security tools designed by experts throughout the nation
• Assistance with interfacing with other health care stakeholders in the state, including labs and pharmacies
  

Plus, the HPREC will provide independent validation of EHR use for HMSA providers that sign up with the HPREC and are looking to advance to a higher PCMH level.

The HPREC will assist in determining your health IT needs, as well as provide you with a qualified list of vendors that are committed to:

• Remaining certified as the definition of Meaningful Use continues to change
• Supplying continual support beyond the grant timeframe.

Practice & Workflow Redesign

We will help you work with your electronic health record (EHR) vendor to implement and troubleshoot your EHR system. The HPREC consultants will assist with mapping out and redesigning your work process and updating staff roles and responsibilities. In addition, the HPREC will aid you in addressing gaps you may encounter when transferring from paper to electronic records.

Functional Interoperability & Health Information Exchange

In order to ensure consistency of care, the HPREC will work with you to connect to available health information exchange infrastructures.

Privacy & Security Best Practices

The HPREC consultants will help you employ best practices as far as privacy and security of personal health information are concerned.

Progress Toward Meaningful Use

The HPREC will provide you with support in becoming eligible for the incentives offered by The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) by achieving Meaningful Use.
