Programs: Regional Extension Center Program

Regional Extension Centers (RECs) were established in 2009 by the Health Information Technology Extension Program in order to offer technical support to health care providers as they strive to become “meaningful users” of electronic health records (EHRs). The Hawai‘i Pacific REC is one of over 60 RECs nationwide and serves all of the Hawaiian Islands, as well as Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

The Hawai‘i Pacific REC is available to help physicians transition, smoothly and effectively, from paper to electronic health records. Whether you’ve chosen a vendor already or not, HPREC will assist you in implementing your EHR software and provide you with support every step of the way. We will work with you side-by-side, offering continual assistance beyond the grant period. 
  
The Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange (Hawai‘i HIE) was awarded a grant under the Health Information Technology Extension Program in order to establish a Regional Extension Center. The Hawai‘i HIE has subcontracted with the Telecommunications and Information Policy Group at the University of Hawai‘i-Manoa to act as the technology consultants to physicians.
