The Hawai‘i HIE tasked to develop and implement a state HIE plan

Honolulu, Hawai‘i – July 6, 2010 — The Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange (Hawai‘i HIE) was awarded the State Health Information Exchange Cooperative Agreement as the qualified State Designated Entity (SDE) for HIE. This cooperative agreement was granted by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and includes funding of over $5.6 million to be provided to the state over four years. Under this agreement, the Hawai‘i HIE is developing Strategic and Operational Plans for the Hawaiian Islands which define activities that the Hawai‘i HIE will complete to enable or implement HIE through meaningful use of certified Electronic Health Records (EHRs).
Hawai‘i HIE’s stakeholders, including Hawai‘i’s major hospitals, health insurers, and health and community associations, are dedicated to improving and expanding HIE services across the health care system in Hawai‘i. The Board is made up of the following members:

ABOUT HAWAI‘I HEALTH INFORMATION EXCHANGE: The Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange (HIE) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit established in 2006 by leading health care stakeholders in Hawai‘i for the purpose of improving health care delivery throughout the State through seamless, effective, and safe health information exchange. In September of 2009, Hawai‘i HIE was designated by the State to develop and implement a statewide health information exchange that will ultimately feed into the national health information network.
